That freakin’ book…

Are you tired of waiting to find out what the kirtsy book is going to be called? So are we! Believe me — we like to move way faster than this. But deciding on a book title is, apparently, a lot like choosing a new name. Not the wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am speed we’re used to. So, even though you witty, creative, fast-responding kirtsy lovelies worked fast and instantly presented us with 5 boatloads worth of killer names to choose from, we’re still working them over trying to make sure it’s all perfect. And kirtsy like.
Thanks for your patience. I promise we’ll have an answer to you soon!
Kisses,
The kirtsy chicks
Name Calling, and a Book!
How Good Are You At Naming Things?
If you didn’t name your child Moxie Crimefighter, or your website after an article of clothing, well, then we think you’re pretty darn good at naming things. After all, you people named kirtsy … and look how great that turned out?! In other words, you’re brilliant!
And so we have another naming opportunity for you. (And a HUGE big announcement.)
It’s a book.
A kirtsy book!!!
That’s right! A very lovely kirtsy book is in the process of being created and will be published by Bright Sky Press, an affiliate of Independent Publishers Group. The hardcover trade book will be a celebration of women’s voices, writings, art, design, ideas, discoveries and discussions online. It will feature some of the greatest things we’ve seen on kirtsy over the last year and be distributed across North America, and available for purchase any place fine books are sold. It will be beautiful. But first…
It needs a title.
So of course we’d love to hear what you think it should be called.
Maybe: Take a Bow, the first year of Kirtsy
No? Too obvious?
What about: Stuff Kirtsy People Like
No? Too done?
A Tribe Called Kirtsy
Oh, now you have “Can I Kick It” in your head? Sorry.
How about: Kirtsy it’s like Cursty spelled with a Skirtsy
No. I didn’t think so either.
Obviously we need help.
And that’s where your brilliant mind comes in. It’s the Name That Kirtsy Book Contest!

Tell us what you think the kirtsy book should be called. Really. You can give us as many options as you can handle creating, we can take it. Seriously. This great book needs a great title.
Just leave your ideas here. You have until midnight EST, Friday, August 8th. And then! Then. We will pick a winner. And the winner shall receive fame, recognition, love, an entry of her (or his) choice in the book (you’ll be published dude!) and five (five!) of her or his choice of books from the fantastic Bright Sky Press.
It’s all true. It’s going to be amazing. We can’t wait to see what it becomes.
In the immortal words of smart librarians everywhere, Books Rule!
A More Lijit kirtsy

Are you so Lijit you’re not even going to refer to MC Hammer and quitting? hey, kirtsy is too!
<———————– Check it out over there in our sidebar.
Lijit is a new way of searching based on trust. You awesome Kirtsy readers trust what we Kirtsy chicks have to say (we hope!). And now that we’re Lijit, you can pick the aggregated Kirtsy brain and get results from blogs you all read, your tweets, your Flickr photo stream and other content you’ve contributed online. It’s more than just blog search. It’s a bloggggggggggggggggggg searrrrrrrrrrrch. And way prettier. Plus, our beloved Kirtsy party girl Tara is the queen Lijit Evangelist. And anything Tara loves, we love. And we think you will love it too. So we invite you to give it a test run on our blog, and then go git lijit for yo’sef.
Video Game Winners!!
You’ve been waiting and waiting for this announcement. The Kirtsy Hearts Video Games Contest is officially over. It was our biggest contest yet with over 1300 entries and we’re so happy that you are as excited about video games as we are.
From those hundreds and hundreds of entries, four winners have been randomly chosen. Four winners who will each receive a Nintendo DS Lite system. Four super lucky ladies! Congratulations to:
1) Mamalang who said, “I’m the only one in my family that doesn’t have a DS.
And Brain Age 1 is my family. I need a DS!”
2) Alison who said, “My favorite games are Rummikub and Tetris. Right now I’m very into Guitar Hero.”
3) Michelle who said, “My favorite is Viva Pinata on the 360. We are also huge Rock Band fans at our house.”
4) Fidget who said, “My all time fave is Mrs Pacman. My orthodontist had a Mrs Pacman machine in his office. It made the biweekly braces tightening torture lot more bearable.”
Hooray for you! Hooray for Nintendo!
kirtsy hearts video games week!

“95% of this game is half mental.”
Yogi Berra
That quote pretty much sums it all up. We’re not sure how, but the math and the language arts are both fantastic. Plus, our love of gaming is old like Frogger and new like Rock Band. And we totally don’t understand it at all.
But we do know this, Tuesday, July 8th is Video Games Day. (Of course it is. You have all your decorations up right?) And we are celebrating all week long with the Kirtsy Hearts Video Games Week! FTW! We’re in ur base, killing ur d00dz. W00t! Etc.
“The score never interested me, only the game.”
Mae West
So we’re curious, what is your favorite video game? You know you have one, or two or fifteen. Here are ours.
Laura: Guitar Hero
Laurie: Galaga, FreeRice
Gabrielle (according to Ben Blair): High School Musical: Sing It! for the Wii.
It’s true that we each have our own complex and sordid relationships with gaming. Do we love it? Do we get it? Can we do it? Wait, what are we talking about here. Oh yeah, video games.
Lately, we’ve kinda been getting into them more than ever. Because companies are getting cooler and smarter, and so are the games. So we’re thinking. And Nintendo’s thinking. And this week, we’re joining together to give away FOUR Nintendo DS Lite systems! That’s right. Four winners! And each will receive $150 in prizes:

A PINK Nintendo DS! (Have you seen these things. They are the best! I keep mine in my purse for queues, train rides and other freak moments of boredom.)

And a
Brain Age 2 game! (This will either make you feel really smart, or really challenged, or really sleepy. Either way, you’re a winner.)
Honestly, we could go on and on about how much we love these Nintendo DS jobbies. They’re pretty much the greatest. And we’re really digging Nintendo right about now. So join us!
Celebrate your love of gaming this week. And leave a comment here telling us your favorite game (Scrabble and Go Fish and Burger Time all totally count) to be registered to win these incredible prizes from super cool Nintendo. You have from now until Saturday, July 19th at 11:59pm EDT.
And seriously, we hope you win. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate Kirtsy Hearts Video Games Week!
Love the playah, love the game.
We’ve Got Some Winners!
Well. Well. Well. It’s one fabulous giveaway after another here at kirtsy. So how about we announce some fabulous winners to receive all that fabulosity.
First of all, there was the Happy Birthday Kirtsy and 19th Amendment Contest. It was all about celebrating women who let their voices and votes be heard. And it came with over $625 worth of prizes. Let’s give a big hip, hip, hooray for the lucky winner: juliemead!!
And then, most recently, there was the Happy Kirtsy International Sleep-in Week Contest. With some super luxe sheets up for grabs. And guess who gets to grab them? Congratulations to: Frantically Simple!!
Fun stuff. And stayed tuned. Because it’s kirtsy. And there’s always more fun stuff to come.
Happy Kirtsy International Sleep-In Week!

Hey I Know! You Should Celebrate This Super Important Week by Totally Sleeping In.
Just so you know, it’s officially National Carpenter Ant Awareness Week (So be AWARE!), which only proves there is a week for everything. Seriously.
It also proves anything can be celebrated.
So we say, hey, carpenter ants get plenty enough attention (boy do they ever), so we’re turning ours to something that we don’t focus on near enough.
Sleep.
Now, to heck with the fact that we just celebrated the longest day of the year (Happy Summer Solstice everyone!), we really think everyone reading this should sleep more. Summer’s here. It’s hot. Kids are running around everywhere. The mall is a nightmare. You should be on vacation. So you might as well sleep. In fact, sleep in. Because it’s International Sleep-In Week at Kirtsy!
And we’re celebrating by partnering up with Select Comfort and giving away super fancy sleep accoutrements. We’re talking $260 sheets, people. If you can’t sleep in with that, we cannot help you here. Move along.
But we think you can, FTW! So to enter, you must sleep in.
No seriously.
Try it. And/or leave a comment here or at the post on kirtsy. And you’re registered to win:
A Select Comfort SmartFit Lyocell queen sheet set.

These sheets breathe. They wick away moisture. (I both love and seriously hate the word wick. I definitely hate the word moisture.) They wrap you in super soft comfortable goodness so you can sleep like a teenager. Or a celebrity. Same thing.
Plus, on a related note, from now until August 1, Select Comfort is getting all up in your sleep business to issue you a challenge. (Oh, don’t challenge me! You’re asking for it!)
To sleep. (I’m in!)
Just visit the Sleep In Challenge site to get all the deets on their challenge/contest. You could win a fancy Sleep Number bed worth $1,200! Yowza!
So sleep in for goodness sakes. Because not sleeping, well, it leads to tiredness. And eye baggage. And obesity, Type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. Seriously.
And then leave a comment to win sheets to sleep even better. We really hope you win. And we hope you sleep in.
Happy Kirtsy International Sleep-in (and National Carpenter Ant Awareness) Week!
